AI Side Hustles Half-true — works only if you do the unspoken work

AI Edge’s “no skills” side hustle ranking really runs on distribution

Verdict: Half-true — works only if you do the unspoken work. The ranking is fair and unusually honest about trade-offs, but the “no skills” promise in the title fights the video’s own conclusion.

A video from the channel AI Edge, titled “The BEST AI Side Hustle To Start In September 2026 (no skills),” ranks 13 AI money-making models from D tier to S tier. It’s had 50,990 views. The creator, who says his agency has done “over $20 million in revenue” and his digital-product business “over $6 million,” lands on one clear winner. And that winner quietly undoes the “no skills” part of the title.

What the video actually claims

The format is a tier list. AI clipping and AI website generation get dumped in D tier. Faceless YouTube channels, AI voice agents and AI UGC ads sit in C. Newsletters, small-business consulting and TikTok live shopping fill out the middle. Near the top he puts AI trading, high-ticket consulting, digital products and an AI automation agency.

The number one pick, in S tier, is “AI media and distribution” — building an audience. He’s blunt about why: “The only reason that I can do high ticket, small business, UGC, ad funnels, consulting, digital products, all of this at once is because I have one thing, distribution.” He mentions “over 1.3 million followers across all platforms” and says that when he pitches brands, “if I reach out to, I don’t know, 100, I might get five willing to give my agency a go because we’re already established.”

To his credit, this isn’t a “$10k in 30 days” pitch. He never promises a specific figure. There’s a repeated call to join a free “school” community, which is the funnel — worth naming, since the community is where any future paid offer will appear.

What the method actually requires

Here’s the tension. The thumbnail says “no skills.” The video says the opposite, over and over. Almost every model he ranks gets the same caveat: it “works much better when you are already an established personal brand.” That’s not a small footnote. It’s the whole game.

Take the models one at a time, with real numbers.

Faceless YouTube (his C tier). He notes AI voiceovers “are getting flagged” and pure UGC content “is getting demonetized.” That’s accurate. YouTube’s monetization policy requires content to be “original and authentic” and specifically “not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative,” and the July 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” (YouTube Help). A channel of templated AI slideshows isn’t a passive income machine; it’s a demonetization candidate. You still need editing taste, scripting and often a real human voice — which he admits adds cost.

TikTok live shopping (his B tier). He calls the numbers “mind-blowing,” and the growth is real. U.S. livestream shopping is forecast near $20 billion in 2026, roughly 35% higher year over year, and TikTok Shop’s live sales more than doubled in the first half of 2026 (CNBC). What the video glides past is the labor. Successful live sellers run roughly 15–25 hours a week on camera. QVC alone streams more than 200 hours a week across seven channels. This is a shift job with a ring light, not automation.

Consulting and automation agencies (his A and S-adjacent tiers). He’s honest that landing the first client is “hard” and testimonials take “like six months of work.” He estimates a voice-agent build might fetch “$500 to $1,000,” scaling to “$5 to $10,000” only “after like six months.” That’s a reasonable range. It’s also a service business with sales cycles, not a no-skills upload-and-earn play.

Notice the pattern. Every tier comes with an hours bill or a skills bill the title waves away.

Who actually wins this game?

The people who win are the ones who already have the S-tier asset before they start. That’s the honest reading of his own words. If you have 1.3 million followers, a $20 million revenue track record and a network of creators, then yes — you can layer consulting, digital products, UGC ads and a newsletter on top, because you’ve solved distribution once and reuse it everywhere.

Strip the audience away and the ranking inverts. Without distribution, a digital product “dies on the development table,” to borrow his phrase. The automation agency needs cold outreach. The newsletter needs signups you don’t have. He says it plainly: “It’s a little bit hard to establish a newsletter with no distribution.” So the true first job isn’t picking a side hustle. It’s building the audience — which is skilled, slow work that most viewers searching “no skills” are trying to avoid.

What you’d realistically earn

Because the video names no headline figure, there’s nothing to knock down — but there’s plenty to calibrate. Live shopping is the model with the cleanest public data, so use it as a yardstick. Industry tracking puts the average active U.S. TikTok Shop seller around $690 a month in net profit on roughly $3,750 in sales, an 18% margin after platform fees, creator commissions, fulfillment, returns and ads. Fewer than 10% of new sellers survive their first year. Top-10 sellers pulled a combined $355 million in a single quarter — the spread between the median and the top is enormous.

A realistic beginner path looks like this: months of unpaid audience-building, then small service or product income in the low hundreds per month, with a real shot at $2,000–$10,000 a month only after a year-plus of consistent output and a client base or following to sell to. That’s not a knock on the creator. It’s the arithmetic he’s describing between the lines.

One more thing for U.S. readers. If a course or coaching offer ever attaches earnings claims to this, the FTC’s proposed Earnings Claim Rule and expanded Business Opportunity Rule would require sellers to “have written substantiation to back up any earnings claims” and hand it over on request (FTC). The current free-community version sidesteps that, but it’s worth knowing the line if a paid offer follows.

Who this is (and isn’t) for

This video is genuinely useful for someone with 10–20 hours a week, a tolerance for six-plus months of no income, and either an existing small following or the patience to build one from zero. If that’s you — and you treat “distribution first” as the assignment rather than the caveat — the ranking is a decent map. It’s the same logic behind 5 proven ways to make money with AI (no experience) and the deeper dive in the best Claude AI side hustle nobody is talking about.

It isn’t for someone who read “no skills” literally and wants income this month without building an audience, learning a platform, or getting on sales calls. That person will bounce off every tier, top to bottom.

What to remember

The ranking itself is fair, and the creator deserves credit for not selling a fantasy number. The problem is the packaging. “No skills” is the hook; “you need distribution, which is a skill” is the actual message. Believe the message, not the thumbnail — and budget for the year of work that the word “passive” always hides.
